About the event

“Das Goldene Segel” association, announce an international art competition every two years. When choosing the topics, we focus on our Bad Zwischenahn region; the techniques required vary in the different art disciplines. We started in 2006 with the 1st art prize, the literary competition 'Poesie in the Wind'. This was followed by the music competition 'Sound Worlds', the poster art competition 'Scenes by the Sea', and the photo competition 'Faszination Water'. In 2015 the theme was 'Sea of flowers in rapport - dialogue of techniques'. This was followed in 2017 by 'Graphics/painting meets typography/literature - tree worlds', supplemented by the quote from the philosopher Khalil Gibran: Trees are poems that the earth writes in the sky, in 2019 in the cartoon section 'KUR BAD - With acumen into the modern age ' and in 2022 the competition with the theme 'MOOR - Multifaceted Levels'.

Bad Zwischenahn will celebrate the 900th anniversary of Zwischenahn in 2024. A lot has changed in this long time, but the lake, the Zwischenahner Meer, has remained. That inspired us for the topic

THE LAKE - DIVERSE. COLORFUL . MOVING

This project is not just a traditional competition with an award ceremony, but our association has set itself exclusive goals. We want to reward outstanding achievements by professional artists and amateurs. A well-known jury decides on the awarding of the prizes and nominations. The 3 main winners, 1 youth prize winner, 1 children's prize winner and 15 nominees will be honored at the award ceremony on May 4, 2024 in the Wandelhalle in Bad Zwischenahn. There will be a 1st prize of 1,500 euros, a 2nd prize of 1,000 euros, a 3rd prize of 500 euros, a youth prize of 500 euros and a children's prize in the form of a non-cash prize. With a unique presentation, the 20 selected works of art will be printed on sailing flags and blown in the wind in the spa gardens of Bad Zwischenahn for around 6 months. With this forum, the association not only wants to offer artists a special platform, but also to inspire the many visitors to the park for contemporary art with the sailing flags flying on the Zwischenahner Meer. This spectacular exhibition is complemented by corresponding information boards. The exclusivity is rounded off by a traveling exhibition of the 20 selected works of art at various locations and a photo book in which competition entries are printed. The works of the winners and nominees of the art prize are shown in detail in a photo book in which the artists introduce themselves and their work separately.

Thanks to the unique presentation, the “Golden Sail” art prize became a significant event for the region with international appeal. Our voluntary association “The Golden Sail” is keen to continue this success story.

We invite you to participate and look forward to your artistically interesting contributions.
