About the event

[A]Space is accepting proposals to host two curated exhibitions at its gallery space in Lisbon in November 2024 and spring 2025. We are excited to announce an open call for curators and artists to collaborate in an exhibition where creative freedom takes centre stage. This is an opportunity to challenge norms, provoke thought, and reimagine perspectives, inspiring meaningful dialogue that resonates beyond the gallery walls. Two exhibition proposals will be selected for this transformative experience at [A]Space in 2024–2025.Eligibility: Curators and artist-curators at any stage of their career, based anywhere in Europe, with a distinctive and ambitious artistic practice, regardless of medium or educational background. For logistical purposes, exhibition proposals should include at least 50% of artworks produced in Portugal. The remaining 50% can be created elsewhere in Europe. What you get: [A]Space offers a fee of €1,000 per exhibition for the curator (or artist-curator) and artist(s) involved, plus travel expenses to Lisbon of up to €600, reimbursed upon receipts. [A]Space will also cover the cost of shipping artworks to Portugal up to a total of €1,000 per exhibition, again based on receipts. If an exhibition proposal requires a higher budget than what is offered, please specify the reasons in your application, providing as much detail as possible. In the event of a sale during the exhibition, the gallery takes a 30% commission, after deducting standard exhibition costs. The remaining 70% is shared between the artist and curator, with a suggested split of 60% to the artist and 10% to the curator.
