About the event
The wildly popular Every Woman Biennial is back for 2024! Applications are open September 15th, 2023 and close November 15th, 2023 at 11PM EST.
PLEASE READ THIS PAGE IN ITS ENTIRETY. WE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTING SHIPPED ITEMS HOWEVER YOU ARE WELCOME TO ARRANGE DELIVERY OF OUT-OF-TOWN PIECES IN PERSON ON THE DELIVERY DAYS.
This year's theme is "I Will Always Love You" in keeping with the tradition of the Biennial’s former name and homage to Whitney Houston.
We'll be doing something different this year. We're asking all accepted artists to donate a separate (separate from their larger accepted work )small, hangable object, either a small work, a crafted item, a talisman, an amulet, a spell, a found object, or a crow's gift, and these items will be hung and become part of a large installation and sold for a flat price each to benefit the Biennial and an environmental organization. These are easy and beautiful little offerings to the collective bounty that is the EWB. We ask that all artists participate in providing the object but you are not required to participate in the sale if you would like your item returned. Along with the object we'd like a short love letter. More details will be provided upon acceptance.
With I Will Always Love You, we're reconnecting with the small things that we loved as children. We’re honoring the pain of being human, of love lost, of aging, of death, of moving on. We’re celebrating the joy that love brings. The forever moments that captured our hearts. We'd like the art to reflect your interpretation of this theme.
WHO MAY APPLY
1) The Every Woman Biennial welcomes women and non-binary artists of all ethnic backgrounds, abilities, and ages to join us in a celebration of the Divine Feminine. We accept submissions in the fields of painting, printmaking, performance, sculpture, drawing, mixed media, installation, and video. Space for installations is limited so please get your applications in early.
2) Collectives may submit a group project under the name of the collective, not the individual artists. Please select one collective member to act as the liaison for contact. Each member of the collective will be required to sign an artist releases/consignment agreement.
3) Special projects such as large installations, performance art, or music must apply via the regular application with previous works cited and then pitch the new concept via a letter of inquiry to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject reading SPECIAL PROJECT. If you do not fill out the regular application you will not be considered.
4) Please upload works labeled as follows:
ARTIST NAME_TITLE_RUN TIME_MEDIUM
Dimensions must be in inches and listed as HxW.
Video artists, please use "RUN TIME" instead of "DIMENSIONS"
We will reject any application that doesn't follow this format.
For safety's sake, please save your application information in a separate document as a backup. Remember, servers can sometimes be overwhelmed and the process slowed. Please take that into consideration when applying. Getting your application in early will avoid this.
Submission of an application does not guarantee participation. We will review applications in November 2023 and notify selected participants by December 15th, 2023. If we have any questions about your proposal, we will contact you at the email address you provided on your application.
We are not able to provide shipping or insurance assistance. and will not be able to accept shipped works. If you do not live in the NYC area, you'll need to arrange for hand delivery and pick-up on your own. Items will be re-wrapped in original packaging and packaged for pickup. All works must be framed (gallery style) and ready to hang.
The artwork will be for sale and currently, the commission split is 60% to the artists, 40% to the Biennial/LaMama Galleria. We are still negotiating.
All notified accepted artists agree to have their work used for promotion regardless of whether or not they sign a consignment or participate in the show. Artists will complete a consignment agreement as part of this application. All artworks included in the show must be included in and subject to the terms of the consignment agreement. Artworks that are not listed on the consignment agreement will not be permitted on the show premises. Further information and the consignment agreement will be sent along with notification of acceptance to the Biennial.
