About the event
For 2024, for all of 2024, this pair is our theme. By presenting and representing this theme through solo, paired and group exhibitions, we will enjoy a rich investigation of this concept. The Vestibule invites submissions of new work solo or paired projects by single artists or small collectives. Each submitting artist will also automatically be considered for inclusion in two group exhibitions.
The work must include time as concept, method, and/or process. For example, a work
- that shows the time in its process
- with time as its topic
- that is timely, about a time
- about how we spend our time. or don’t
- in a time-based media
- that changes over time
We are especially interested in paired submissions from a local artist working with an artist from beyond the Seattle. “Pairs” need not collaborate: they must only share the physical space and overlap in some aesthetic or conceptual element. We encourage submissions by BIPOC artists and artists identifying as LJBTQIA+.
Each exhibition will run for approximately 5 weeks between March 2024 and Dec 2024. Dates determined after acceptance. Please indicate if there are months you are not available or months you would prefer.
Do NOT email images. Please link to a Google Drive or Dropbox folder with
- Proof of concept: 3-5 relevant images of past work. These may be presented in an online portfolio, links to gallery exhibitions as well individual images.
- a general artist statement of not more than ~200 words
- a detailed description of the proposed set of works or project: you may include 3-5 images, sketches, up to 200 words to describe the process and product. Will it be a set of new works on a theme already in process? a new site-specific installation? will it involve a performance? visitor interaction?
- links to online presence and/or CV

FAQ and ClarificationsCan the work be for sale? Yes, we often arrange sales We work on a sliding scale 15-20% commission contract.
Do you offer stipends for artists? Not at this time. For certain noncommercial shows, we have applied for grants and shared these with the artists. However, because these are grants, we cannot guarantee funding.
How should pairs apply? Depending on the nature of the projects, you may apply independently and indicate that you wish to be paired. Or, if the project is collaborative, you may apply as a collective.
Can I show you my portfolio or apply for a show outside of the call for work? Not at this time. If your project doesn’t genuinely fit this theme, then wait for the next call.
For completely non-commercial exhibitions, we ask that the artist gallery sit one weekend of the show. If this is not possible due to distance, we may arrange an alternative on a case-by-case basis.
