About the event

True/False Film Fest is launching a new artist residency program aimed at emerging and mid-career artists. The five week virtual residency will culminate in an in-person exhibition of work from the selected artists at the 2024 festival.

True/False has a long history of creating environments where visual artists can work together with its community of Columbia, Missouri, to transform venues throughout the town in a celebration of artists, films, and music. The T/F Art Program celebrates new public art with a focus on community by exhibiting a program of free and temporary art installations, exhibitions, and community collaboration projects. True/False is dedicated to providing a platform for cultural exchange, networking, and creative exploration, allowing artists to connect and collaborate regardless of geographical constraints.

Selected artists will meet online for weekly sessions starting in November 2023. These sessions will focus on developing community and connection, expanding their knowledge about the current art world, and supporting the delivery of their art installations for True/False. All artists will receive a stipend and contribution towards their material and shipping costs.

Each year T/F adopts a visual theme which acts as inspiration for the artists. In 2024 the theme is The Human Paradox. True/False is looking for dynamic, original large-scale installations, projections, and performance work that have the flexibility to be modified to function in a variety of locations and unconventional venues. Art installations at the Fest are temporary and site-specific with venues including the 9th Street closure, the Picturehouse, and Alley A. Applications for the residency are open now and will close on September 30, 2023.
