Art isn't always meant to be so deep and serious. Across centuries artists have also embraced the fun side of making art. The 18th Century Rococo movement blossomed in France, using light colors and ornate designs artists depicted themes of love, play and leisure.
In the early 20th Century Dadaism embraced nonsense, irreverence, and anti-establishment humor. Dadaists took it upon themselves to challenge the seriousness of art itself. Pop Art was created by artists in the 1950's as a way to convey their fascination with everyday objects and mass culture. Pop artists believe that art is everywhere—on supermarket shelves, in advertising, and in the rhythms of daily life. Our February online group art exhibition “Fun In Progress” celebrates fun & play and the art of not taking yourself too seriously.
