Since its establishment in 1976, the Association of Illustrators (AOI) has organized a prestigious juried competition dedicated to showcasing excellence in the field of illustration. This tradition has evolved over the years, and in 2015, it became the World Illustration Awards (WIA), a partnership between AOI and the Directory of Illustration. Since then, WIA has flourished, gaining international recognition for its commitment to fostering creativity and building bridges between illustrators and the global illustration industry. Each year, the competition celebrates talent worldwide, providing a platform for artists to connect with their peers and expand their opportunities.

For the upcoming World Illustration Awards 2024, the AOI and the Directory of Illustration are offering a special initiative: 40 illustrators will have the chance to submit one project free of charge. This scheme was created to support talented artists who might not otherwise have the financial means to participate.
