Founded in 1999, the Graphic Arts Biennale has long been a prominent cyclical event that showcases the works of young artists within the graphic arts field. This competition has consistently provided a platform for emerging talents to present their unique contributions to the art world. In 2019, the format of the competition evolved to better reflect contemporary cultural dynamics, introducing thematic areas aimed at exploring alternative values and engaging with the complexities of modern life. This shift allowed the Biennale to foster a dialogue between art and contemporary culture, responding to pressing social issues and current global concerns.
The 14th edition of the Graphic Arts Biennale, set to take place in Poznań in the spring of 2025, will be centered around the theme of IMPORT/EXPORT. This theme delves into the complex relationships between core and peripheral countries, exploring how these power dynamics can result in cultural self-colonization. The theme also touches on the ongoing exchange of artistic and cultural influences, highlighting the ways in which the import and export of ideas shape global artistic movements and continue to perpetuate societal divisions.
