The Graphic Arts Biennale, founded in 1999, has served as an important platform for emerging graphic artists to present their work in a competitive and cyclical format. Over the years, the competition has consistently highlighted the innovative contributions of young artists in the field of graphic arts. In 2019, the competition was restructured, with thematic areas introduced to reflect broader cultural concerns. These themes were designed to encourage dialogue between art and the changing dynamics of contemporary culture, addressing topics such as the rise of 1:1 art, utilitarian art, material realism, and the intersection of art with social movements.
In 2025, the Biennale will focus on the theme of IMPORT/EXPORT, which will explore the power dynamics between dominant core countries and peripheral regions. This theme reflects how cultural self-colonization can occur, perpetuating global inequalities. By exploring the concept of import and export in the context of the global exchange of artistic ideas, the Biennale aims to examine how artistic phenomena influence and shape contemporary culture, as well as the ongoing divisions within the global art community.
