The Gwaertler Grant is designed to support artistic projects that strive to make a tangible and meaningful impact within the specific context in which they are created and presented. This grant is not limited by discipline; instead, it welcomes applications from both Swiss and international practitioners working across the full spectrum of the arts. The common thread among successful applicants is a commitment to work that actively engages with its surroundings and intends to shape, question, or enrich its immediate context.
Aimed primarily at artists who are in the early stages of developing a project, the Gwaertler Grant offers critical support for a wide variety of foundational activities. These include, but are not limited to, archival research, interdisciplinary networking, and direct fieldwork. The grant may also be used to facilitate cross-cultural collaboration, conduct interviews that inform the artistic process, or participate in educational opportunities such as specialized courses or training sessions.
In addition, the grant supports more experimental and immersive practices, including the exploration of new techniques, participation in voluntary apprenticeships, and the organization of workshops that can help build community and deepen the artist’s engagement with their subject matter. Ultimately, the Gwaertler Grant is intended to empower artists to fully immerse themselves in the groundwork of their practice—laying the foundation for work that resonates deeply within its intended environment.
