The Gwaertler Grant is more than just funding—it’s a catalyst for artists who are driven to connect their creative vision with the world around them in meaningful ways. This unique grant is dedicated to supporting projects that seek to engage deeply with their social, cultural, or environmental context and make a real, visible difference through art.
Open to both Swiss and international artists working in any artistic discipline, the grant is especially suited for those in the early stages of an idea or initiative. Whether you're building a project from the ground up or exploring the first threads of a concept, the Gwaertler Grant provides support when it’s needed most: at the beginning.
The types of activities the grant supports are as diverse as the projects themselves. Artists can use the funds to conduct archival research, build cross-disciplinary networks, or travel for fieldwork and direct engagement with communities. It can also be used for cross-cultural exchanges, interviews with key individuals, participation in courses, or the development of collaborative workshops.
Even less conventional paths are encouraged—experimenting with new artistic techniques, diving into voluntary apprenticeships, or finding unexpected ways to immerse yourself in a subject or context. Whatever your process looks like, the Gwaertler Grant is here to support the essential work that lays the foundation for impactful, thoughtful, and deeply rooted artistic practice.
