In 2025, the Lahti International Poster Triennial will celebrate its 50th anniversary, a remarkable achievement for an event that has been held since 1975. Over the decades, this international graphic design competition and exhibition has become a vital platform for showcasing the creativity and innovation of designers from around the world. The upcoming 22nd edition of the triennial, once again hosted in the Finnish city of Lahti, will be particularly special, as it marks a half-century of artistic excellence and cultural exchange. To honor this important milestone, the triennial will feature a special anniversary category with the theme ‘freedom of expression.’ This theme draws attention to one of the most fundamental human rights, which, despite being enshrined in laws and constitutions across many countries, remains under constant threat in numerous parts of the world. Through this theme, the Lahti Triennial invites participants to explore and reflect on the continuing challenges to free speech, encouraging designers to use their creativity to advocate for the preservation of this essential right.
