Locust Projects - Project Room Open Call

Locust Projects invites proposals from artists working at all levels—emerging, mid-career, and established—on a local, national, or international scale to apply for the opportunity to develop and exhibit ambitious, site-responsive new work in our 625-square-foot PROJECT ROOM in Miami, Florida. The selected artist will gain full access to the gallery’s space and resources, with the freedom to experiment, push conceptual and material boundaries, and realize bold, large-scale ideas that may not be feasible in traditional venues.

Proposals are evaluated by a rotating selection jury, which typically includes previous exhibiting artists from Locust Projects alongside one local curator. This rotating jury model ensures a rich diversity of perspectives rooted in both practice and curatorial insight. The proposal process is overseen and coordinated by Elizabeth Withstandley, artist and co-founder of Locust Projects. Following the jury's initial review and shortlisting of proposals, the Executive Director—who also serves as Chief Curator—makes the final selections. Scheduling is determined based on a thoughtful balance of artistic vision, programmatic diversity, and calendar availability.

Approximately 75% of Locust Projects' annual exhibitions are drawn directly from this Open Call process, underscoring the organization’s ongoing commitment to artist-centered practices and transparent curation. The remaining 25% are selected by the Executive Director to further enrich the annual program with complementary or thematically resonant projects. This opportunity offers selected artists not only valuable space and exposure but also professional support in realizing their most daring and experimental work.
