The MSU Museum CoLab Studio is excited to invite daring and innovative proposals for our forthcoming exhibition titled “Blurred Realities.” This exhibition, along with its accompanying public programming series, will explore contemporary issues that challenge our perceptions of reality and authenticity. In a time when technology is rapidly evolving, “Blurred Realities” will investigate the concepts of real versus surrogate objects and media, as well as the dynamics of authenticity and deception, and the complexities of information versus disinformation. With advancements in 3D printing, generative AI, deep fakes, synthetic voices, and simulated realities, we ask: how can we differentiate between genuine information and misleading fabrications?
What We Are Looking ForWe are interested in proposals that delve into the intricate relationship between imaginative storytelling, authenticity, and the manipulation of information, all while anchored in the realms of art, science, and ethics. The exhibition seeks to confront the challenges posed by disinformation, generative AI outputs, and evolving concepts of perception, interpretation, and truth. Our goal is to highlight strategies for navigating plausible yet misleading information and representations, while celebrating the importance of evidence-based reasoning and democratic processes.
