The MSU Museum CoLab Studio is calling for bold and inventive proposals for our upcoming exhibition, “Blurred Realities.” This exhibition, paired with a series of public programs, aims to tackle contemporary issues that question our understanding of what constitutes reality and authenticity. In an age characterized by rapidly advancing technology, “Blurred Realities” will focus on the distinctions between real and surrogate objects and media, exploring themes of authenticity, deception, and the challenges of discerning information from disinformation. As we navigate innovations such as 3D printing, generative AI, deep fakes, synthetic voices, and simulated environments, we pose the critical question: how can we tell apart authentic narratives from deceptive ones?
What We Are Looking ForWe invite proposals that investigate the boundary between creative storytelling, authenticity, and the manipulation of information, situated at the crossroads of art, science, and ethics. The exhibition aims to address the complexities surrounding misinformation, generative AI text and imagery, and the evolving notions of perception and truth. We aspire to uncover methods for navigating the landscape of plausible yet false representations, all while championing the significance of evidence-based reasoning and democratic decision-making.
