The MSU Museum CoLab Studio is eager to receive bold and creative proposals for our next exhibition, “Blurred Realities.” This exhibition, along with its public programming series, will delve into pressing contemporary questions that challenge our views on reality and authenticity. In an era of transformative technology, “Blurred Realities” seeks to examine the distinctions between genuine and surrogate objects and media, as well as the nuances of authenticity versus deception, and the balance between information and disinformation. Given the rise of 3D printing, generative AI, deep fakes, synthetic voices, and simulated experiences, we ask: how do we discern real information from falsehoods?
What We Are Looking ForWe seek proposals that engage with the fine line separating imaginative storytelling from authenticity and manipulative information, grounded in the intersections of art, science, and ethics. The exhibition aims to confront the dilemmas associated with dis/misinformation, generative AI-created content, and the evolving perceptions of truth and interpretation. We hope to reveal strategies that can effectively navigate the realm of plausible yet misleading information and representations, while also celebrating the power of evidence-based reasoning and democratic engagement.
