The Schweizer Strohmuseum is pleased to announce the reopening of its collection to artists, designers, and creative professionals—ten years after its last successful initiative. This is an exciting opportunity for participants to engage with historical materials and reinterpret traditional techniques in fresh, contemporary ways.

Located in the heart of the Freiamt region, the museum is home to a rich and visually stunning collection that documents the once-thriving hat weaving industry. Visitors will find a wide array of historical artifacts, including imaginative straw weaving patterns, finely detailed decorative items, and high-end hat models that reflect the remarkable skill and aesthetic sensibility of past artisans.

As part of this initiative, the museum is launching a design competition. Entrants are invited to draw inspiration from the collection and propose innovative new works that respond to or reimagine the techniques, forms, or materials on display. The competition welcomes a wide range of approaches—from traditional object-making to digital design, wearable art, sculpture, installation, and beyond.

We encourage participants to be bold, experimental, and reflective. How might old methods be adapted for today's challenges? What happens when you mix past and present? The answers lie in your creativity.
