Between external expression and internal essence lies the elusive construct we call identity. Far from static, it is a fluid interplay of memory, cultural heritage, longing, trauma, and imagination. Identity operates as both mask and mirror, both performance and self-disclosure.
For many artists, creative practice becomes a method of inquiry—a process of uncovering and interrogating the narratives they’ve inherited, the roles they’re expected to play, and the myths they carry. Through this process, they pose vital questions: Who am I in solitude? Who do I become in public?
Some arrive at a provisional truth. Through visual, material, and digital media, they articulate a version of selfhood that feels authentic—at least for now. Their work affirms: This is who I am in this moment.
Others resist the very premise of a singular or stable identity. For these artists, creation is a means of resistance—against categorization, against simplification. They engage in practices that foreground multiplicity, contradiction, and fluidity. Their work reflects the ongoing process of becoming.
There are also those whose identities have historically been marginalized or erased. For them, the act of making is intrinsically political. It is an assertion of presence and agency. Their work does not merely examine identity—it insists upon it.
This exhibition seeks to create a space for all of these explorations: the resolved and the unresolved, the fragmented and the forceful. We invite artists to engage deeply with the complex, intimate terrains of identity—to question, affirm, subvert, and reimagine. And in doing so, to offer others the possibility of recognition and resonance.
