The Vera List Center for Art and Politics at The New School is excited to announce the 2025–2027 Focus Theme, "Matter of Intelligence," along with an Open Call for project proposals. This Open Call has been reimagined to span two rounds, offering opportunities for projects that will be supported across various VLC programs, including our renowned fellowship program.
As part of a sabbatical year dedicated to reflection and recalibration, the Open Call has been redesigned to better celebrate the diverse creative practices, scholarship, and knowledge within our extended community. This will help shape our curatorial vision as we explore the theme of intelligence over the next two years.
"Matter of Intelligence" focuses on collective intelligence, placing artists and their ideas at the forefront of the inquiry. This approach builds on the history of successful fellowship projects that have been supported and presented through our programs.
Projects submitted in the first round will be considered for the VLC Fellowship, as well as other initiatives like our seminar series, exhibitions, annual VLC Forum, and publications. A limited number of submissions will be invited to move to the second round and submit full proposals for fellowship projects. This revised approach reduces the application workload while continuing to develop ideas from the first round within our programs.
