The Vera List Center for Art and Politics at The New School announces its 2025–2027 Focus Theme, "Matter of Intelligence," and invites project submissions through an Open Call. This newly structured Open Call, now with two rounds, is designed to support and advance ideas across a variety of VLC programs, including the fellowship program.
During our sabbatical year, we’ve reimagined this Open Call to better reflect and amplify the diverse practices, research, and knowledge within our community, allowing it to inform our curatorial strategies during our exploration of intelligence over the next two years.
With a focus on collective intelligence, this cycle prioritizes artists and their ideas, ensuring they remain central to our exploration throughout the entire period. The approach draws on the successful history of fellowship projects presented through VLC programs.
Projects from the first round will be considered for the VLC Fellowship, as well as other initiatives such as seminars, exhibitions, the annual VLC Forum, and publications. A select number of submissions will advance to the second round, where applicants can submit full proposals for fellowship commissions. This new process minimizes the effort needed to apply while continuing to engage with projects from the first round.
