The Vera List Center for Art and Politics at The New School is proud to announce its 2025–2027 Focus Theme, "Matter of Intelligence," and the launch of an Open Call for project proposals. This Open Call, now organized into two rounds, invites projects that will be supported across a wide range of VLC’s programs, including the fellowship program.
As part of our sabbatical year of reflection and program rethinking, we’ve redesigned this Open Call to better engage with the diverse creative practices and scholarly work within our community, allowing us to shape our curatorial approach during the two-year exploration of intelligence.
The "Matter of Intelligence" theme centers on collective intelligence, putting artists and their ideas at the core of our exploration from the start. This builds on the history of successful fellowship projects supported by VLC.
Submissions from the first round will be considered for the VLC Fellowship, along with other programs such as seminars, exhibitions, and publications. A limited number of projects will advance to the second round, where full proposals for fellowship projects will be invited. This revised format reduces the application burden while continuing to support and develop ideas from the first round.
